As a third generation ordained Presby elder and son of Presby missionaries and a lover of Machen and Schaefer I really appreciate columns.
Schaefer's trilogy was the first "thick" theology I ever read, also. And, also, barely understood it.
I need to re-read McLean. What was the father's funny line? Something about Methodists being Baptists, but with shoes? I forget.
There have been some great cultured despisers of Calvinism, including not only Mencken, but also Chesterton, and our mutually admired Kevin Williamson. Although I read from him somewhere that he is "Puritan-curious" so maybe we'll win him over from Rome some day.
